MORNING SESSION (all attendees)
Putting Youth at the Center of Systems and Pathways: Modes, Models and Measures

This symposium will explore models and research-based frameworks for engaging students, developing alliances, setting goals and tracking impacts at a systemic level. The first panel will explore emerging models for cross-sector efforts to align out of school science and technology programming at city, regional and state-wide levels. The second panel will discuss emerging research and questions that can be employed to support cross-sector and longitudinal “student-centered” evaluation efforts. After each panel a facilitated discussion will enable participants to consider implementation aspects at individual sites and organizations.

Confirmed Panelists:
• Jessica Donner, Director of the Collaborative for Building After-School Systems
• Jeff Buehler, Director of Project Lift-Off
• Bruce Schafer, Executive Director of the Oregon Pre-Engineering and Applied Sciences Initiative
• Bronwyn Bevan, Exploratorium
• Robert Tai, University of Virginia
• Nichole Pinkard, Digital Youth Network
• Gil Noam, McLean Hospital/Harvard University
• Diane Miller, St. Louis Science Center

Convened by Gabrielle Lyon, Project Exploration

AFTERNOON BREAKOUT SESSIONS  (choose only one of the options when registering)

Older Youth: Pathways to STEM Engagement and STEM Careers
Older Youth (14 and older) are often underserved by OST programs because they require programming conditions different from those required for younger children.  This session will focus on defining an action agenda to promote and inform policy, to inform research projects and promote a community of practice to support STEM OST programming for older youth.

Convened by Irene Porro, MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research and Tony Streit, Educational Development Center

California After School Network
This networking session will convene program providers and stakeholders involved in youth development and STEM efforts across California. Come meet colleagues, learn about funding and programming opportunities, and help set a statewide agenda to ensure all California students have access to science and technology in out of school settings.

Convened by Andee Press-Dawson, The California After School Network
